Organisations will be interested in having evidence that their Safeguarding Training or strategies and processes are evaluated in order to establish whether they provide the organisation with the following:
- value for money
- develop competencies of practitioners
- effective support for the implementation of policies and procedures
- identifies gaps in policies, skills and service provision
- enables organisations to measure progress following inspections, individual management or serious case review recommendations
Organisational learning is an ongoing process and part of professional and service development. Training is:
- a systematic process
- concerned with changing concepts, skills and attitudes of both individuals and groups
- about improving job performance and enhancing the effectiveness of the organisation (Bramley 1990).
Evaluation can be requested in relation to courses designed and developed by CCJJ Training & Consultancy Services or courses delivered by in-house trainers or trainers from other organisations at a number of levels.
Immediate Impact level - statistical breakdown and narrative of the training delivered and learning response of participants. The report will provide data in respect of the participant's attendance and an analysis including for example:
- Knowledge gained
- Recognition of concerns
- Understanding their own role and responsibility
- Identification of support systems
- Confidence level in managing and responding to concerns
Post Course level - usually within 3 - 6 months following course attendance but timescale is negotiable. Explores how well participants gained and applied their learning. Also what had hindered or assisted that learning
Evaluation in these cases can measure influence, impact and confidence levels on individual professional practitioners and service delivery.
Organisational Audit Level - Audit measures influence and impact on practice and service in relation to Organisational standards, mandates or specific directives. These might arise from legislative changes, inquiry reports, Individual Management or Serious Case Review recommendations. This will enable the organisation to ascertain whether training or practice has resulted in changes within the organisation in line with strategy or action plans.
